The 24.8-metre motor yacht Jess Conn was raided by the Nantucket Police and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration on Tuesday (5 September) after a woman was evacuated from the yacht and taken to an ambulance.

The Nantucket Police Department responded to a report of a woman in need of medical assistance following a suspected overdose at Nantucket Harbor at 7.47am.

With the assistance of the Nantucket Harbor Masters Office, United States Coast Guard Station Brant Point and the Nantucket Fire Department, they located the casualty and the yacht's owner, who were both on board.

Following the woman's transport to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, the owner of the boat – a retired physician – was arrested for two counts of possession of a firearm without a license.

The Nantucket Police Department and the DEA Cape Cod Resident Office continued the investigation and the owner was further charged with one count of trafficking in Class B; one count of possession to distribute Class A; one count of possession of a firearm without a license; one count of possession of ammunition with a license; four counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device. He will be arraigned in Nantucket District Court on 11 September.

The case still remains under investigation. Jess Con was involved in an additional incident in May this year when she ran aground on a reef in the Florida Keys.
