The 55 metre Amels yacht Papa has returned to Damen Yachting for a two-month refit in preparation for a busy summer season.
Usually based in Thailand, the yacht undertook a 8,500 nautical mile journey from Phuket to reach the Damen Yachting facilities in Vlissingen.
“As far as ocean passages go, this was not an easy one,” said Captain Olly Lewis, a repeat Amels fleet Captain. “We experienced very challenging weather for almost all of the 8,500 nautical miles it took to get here and it was certainly an eye-opener for a lot of the crew.
“That said, Papa handled herself brilliantly and it was worth everything the elements threw at us to be able to bring her back to the yard where she was originally built. It’s great to be back here and working with the Amels team at the yard.”
Delivered in 2019 as part of Amels’ popular Limited Editions 180 line, Papa has gone on to become a popular and versatile charter platform.
She is part of the Burgess charter fleet and features a number of crowd-pleasing elements, including a large sundeck, generous beach club and twin unfolding balconies in the main saloon.
Her elegant exteriors are by Tim Heywood, while her interiors come from the drawing boards of Laura Sessa.
Damen’s refit and sales manager Juul Back commented, “We are all very proud to welcome Papa back to Damen Yachting, especially knowing that she was willing to head back here all the way from Thailand.
“All of the preparations ahead of her arrival meant we could get started as soon as she arrived. In fact we were even already working closely with the team – both at Burgess and onboard – while she was underway! We are delighted that another of our Amels 180 Limited Editions has found her way back to Damen Yachting."
