A 29 metre classic yacht named Halcyon has caught fire in Marina Gouvia, in Corfu.
According to local reports, the fire broke out around 4pm local time on board a 20 metre sailing yacht and then spread to several other yachts in the vicinity. Halycon was then towed out of the marina but the damage to the hull and weight of the water required to extinguish the flames caused her to sink.
Other yachts involved in the fire included a sailing catamaran and a speedboat.
Firefighters have been working to extinguish the flames, with five fire engines and boats working to contain the disaster. Authorities are also trying to implement floating protection nets to minimise pollution.
The incident took place on P pontoon of Gouvia Marina.
No injuries have been reported. The yacht was built in 1929 as a commercial vessel by Vosper Thornycroft.
