The 43.7-metre Sun State explorer yacht Leight Star has been sold with Chad Pordes of Northrop & Johnson representing the seller and Joel Romero of The Find Group representing the buyer.
Delivered in 1984 by US-based shipyard Sun State, Leight Star was designed as an explorer yacht. Penned by Doug Sharp and Brooks Dees with naval architecture by Joel Welter, the 43.7-metre's steel hull was originally built by Palatka Shipbuilding, combining classic expedition qualities (thanks to a displacement hull and bulbous bow) with modern comforts. Her interiors are also from Doug Sharp.
A significant refit in 2004 saw the lengthening of her hull and the addition of a sundeck helipad, before another extensive refit in 2009 where she was transformed into a "sophisticated and capable vessel for global cruising", according to her brokers.
This is likely what caught the eye of Netflix producers, with the yacht featuring in 2022 docudrama, Inventing Anna, based on the true story of fraudster socialite Anna Delvey.
Accommodation is for 10 guests across six cabins, including a spacious owner's suite with en suite "spa", fireplace and office. The remaining guest cabins comprise a VIP suite with en suite and steam room, three queen-sized cabins with en suite and one twin cabin also with en suite. Crew quarters house seven.
The interior of Leight Star is inviting; finished in rich woods and decorated with a deep colour palette, her indoor spaces are filled with natural light thanks to large windows throughout.
Her main saloon is spacious, fitted with "cosy" furnishings and a bar, while the skylounge offers another relaxing area with additional sofas and a wet bar.
Built with an explorer brief, a standout feature of Leight Star is her expansive exterior decks. Perfect for entertaining, each of her decks provides generous al fresco dining, lounging and sunbathing spaces fitted with sunpads, sofas and dining tables. Her sundeck even features a Jacuzzi and a "barbecue bar".
Leight star is equipped with Naiad hydraulic anti-roll stabilisers and an American bow thruster for additional stability. Powered by twin Detroit 60 turbo diesel engines with 450hp each, she reaches top speeds of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots with a range of 4700 nautical miles.
Leight Star was last known asking $5,700,000.
