Sold in 2017, the 52.9 metre canoe stern motor yacht Galu is back on the market, offered for sale by Melitas Marine.
Her interior has been completely stripped out and she is now being promoted for sale as a refit project to recreate a famous classic Benetti yacht.
Built in steel and aluminium by the Italian yard and delivered in 1977, she boasted an interior by Jon Bannenberg sleeping 12 guests in six cabins with quarters for 13 crew and was last refitted in 2007. The original accommodation layout consisted of a master suite, VIP suite, two doubles and two twins, giving an idea of the interior volume available.
Alas, there is no longer any trace of her Bannenberg legacy, as all that remains is a bare hull with the original engine room and bridge the sole remnants of the past. Melitas Marine comment that Galu is immediately available for a refit/rebuild at reasonable expense. She was recently in dry dock where hull thickness measurements were made, giving prospective buyers the opportunity to inspect her hull at close quarters.
In the first years after her 1997 launch, the original owner of this yacht for sale used her for up to four months a year and cruised for over 6,000 nautical miles each season, so she has certainly proved her seaworthiness.
Her original 1,280hp MAK diesel engines give her a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 15.5 knots.
Galu is asking $5,000,000.
