International Women’s Day 2020: Celebrate Womanhood at Quinta do Lago, Portugal

Taking place on Sunday March 8, International Women’s Day applauds the achievements of women and raises awareness of gender inequality. If you want to celebrate womanhood together with your fellow females, this coming weekend is the perfect opportunity for booking a last-minute girls’ trip in the sunshine.

Although events are being hosted in cities all over the world, Quinta do Lago Resort in Portugal is the ideal destination if you’re planning to treat yourself to a self-care day on March 8. The five-star resort is located on the sunny southern coast of the Algrarve region, nestled between the rugged Atlantic seafront and the waterways of Ria Formosa Nature Reserve that are bustling with Mediterranean flora and fauna.

What began as a crumbling, 300 year old farmhouse is now a high-end wellness and fitness complex that lures sports enthusiasts, holiday makers and elite athletes to its verdant premises. The biggest draw of Quinta do Lago is is arguably the three golf courses that blend natural scenery with challenging features for golfers of varying levels. Between 1976 and 2001 Quinta do Lago hosted the Portuguese Open a total of eight times. Quinta do Lago's ethos is therefore unsurprisingly focused on health and wellbeing, making it the perfect place to recuperate on International Women's Day 2020.

This year, International Women’s Day will be marked at the Quinta do Lago resort with special workshops held at The Campus. This luxury sporting facility was opened in 2017 and is home to a football pitch, gym, swimming and tennis courts and cycling centre. the workshops on Sunday March 8 are, according to Quinta do Lago dedicated to commemorating ‘being a woman and the trials and tribulations that come with it’. The Yoga for Hormone Balance Workshop will teach women how to achieve balance through a series of yoga asanas, stretches, breath work and meditation. For mature visitors, The Yoga for Menopause Workshop will be running to focus on the management of the symptoms of menopause symptoms, achieve balance and mental clarity.

Quinta do Lago's luxury onsite facilities means that there's plenty of opportunity to unwind and recalibrate outside of these yoga workshops. As well as the award winning golf course, visitors can soak up some sun on the Quinta do Lago beach or dine at one of the resort's 12 restaurants. Outside of the resort, visitors can take in the moorish architecture of the Algarve's historic towns or spend afternoons spotting flamingos, otters or terrapin turtles in the nearby Ria Formosa Natural Park.

If you decide to hop off your superyacht and spend International Women's day on shore at Quinta do Lago, then drop anchor at Marina Vilamoura. Located just a 25 minute drive away from the resort, the marina has 825 berths for yachts up to 60 metres.
