Sanlorenzo unveil new 42m explorer yacht plans

After announcing the concept of a Sanlorenzo explorer yacht at last year's Monaco Yacht Show, we now have more details and renderings from the yard.

Explorer yachts are becoming increasingly popular, and with this in mind Sanlorenzo are aiming to enter this market with a stylish yacht that won't necessarily look like a classic explorer yacht. The Sanlorenzo 42EXP will offer more volume compared to its length than a traditional 42m, lower fuel consumption for extended use, and is being pitched as a viable option for those who are downsizing. According to Sanlorenzo, 'it provides self-sufficiency, the ability to carry extra equipment and a wide variety of toys, superior sea keeping with reduced draught for coastal navigation, long range and fuel efficiency. Great attention is paid to the environment and its conservation: the yacht is classified Green Plus and can remain at anchor for 48 hours without switching on the generators, getting rid of emissions, vibrations and noise.'

The standard layout will offer four guest cabins on the lower deck, and one full-beam master suite on the main deck. The lower deck will also offer comfortable crew quarters, while the captain gets his own cabin on the upper deck. The aft section on the lower deck will offer a beach club with bar, sauna and dive station. Also on the lower deck is a large fitness area, with a counter-current pool and a well-equipped gym.

Powered by two Caterpillar C32 Acert with 970kW (1319hp) or two MTU M63s with 1000 kW (1360hp), the 42EXP will have a speed of 15 knots, and thanks to a 50,000-litre fuel tank, it will have a range of 4000 nautical miles at 11 knots.
