Florida boatbuilder Edgewater showed off its new 368 Deep V Centre Console superyacht tender at the 2015 Miami boat show.
The 11.2 metre boat is designed to perform with twin or triple engines and can be equipped with twin Yamaha F350 or triple Yamaha F300 four-stroke outboards to give a possible 900hp on tap. Edgewater have declined to give a top speed but a conservative estimate would put it in the region of 35 knots at wide open throttle. Edgewater says the boat provides the best performance in its class, delivering 40 per cent better speed and fuel efficiency than rival craft.
The Florida builder is known primarily for its family-oriented centre console boats, crossover and express models, and the deep-V model is a departure into more performance-oriented and superyacht tender markets. The 368CC features Edgewater’s most sophisticated twin step hull design to date, along with the builder’s advanced SPI (Single Piece Infusion) hull and deck construction. The helm area and integrated windshield hardtop also are built using SPI and carbon materials. Its light, aerodynamic design eliminates the use of aluminium tubing.
This SPI construction process sees vinylester resin vacuum-infused into the grid structures and the hull laminate in one step. By infusing them together, resin molecules in the grid harden at the exact same time as the resin in the fiberglass laminate, making it bond as one piece. SPI achieves a strength-to- weight ratio greater than open-moulded, polyester boats, according to laboratory test results provided by Owens Corning, says Edgewater.
Other new technologies on the boat include a C-Zone digital switching system, Optimus electric steering, Garmin electronics, and Yamaha Command Link Plus controls. This complete electronics suite is integrated with NMEA 2000.
“The new 368CC is leading our company into a new era of boat building with a focus on technology, performance, safety and luxury,” said Edgewater Power Boats President Peter Truslow.
Edgewater says the boat has all the comforts of a day cruiser with the performance and range of the fastest fishing boats. For more relaxed moments, there is a wraparound bow and mezzanine cockpit seating, with an “executive jet” style cabin in the console, with galley, convertible dinette, concealed electric head and a flat-screen TV.
