Feadship yacht Gitana emerges from major €3.4M refit

6 May 2022 • Written by Katia Damborsky

The 48 metre Feadship superyacht Gitana is set to be redelivered to London in the coming weeks following a comprehensive refit at Feadship’s Makkum facilities.

It comes after the yacht re-entered the market earlier this year, listed for sale with Northrop & Johnson and Edmiston. “We put Gitana on the market briefly last fall and presented her to the market at the Cannes and Monaco Boat Shows and entertained a number of negotiations,” commented Hank Halsted senior yacht broker at Northrop & Johnson.

“But in the end, [we] preferred to carry out the refit to our standards, then return the yacht to the marketplace this spring, as we’re doing. [The owner] wanted to sell her in the manner in which she was kept.”

The yacht’s refit comprised structural, mechanical and cosmetic work totalling over €3.4 million.

A key component of the refit was a fresh paint job, which included sandblasting the hull back to its bare form and then fairing and finishing the underside. A glossy new paint was also applied from mast top to waterline.

On the technical side, Gitana had a comprehensive mechanical and running gear refurbishment as well as a complete rebuild of her stabilisers and bow thrusters.  She also underwent a 25-year Lloyds classification renewal and her wing stations have been rebuilt and rewired.

Gitana benefitted a great deal more at Feadship than other refit yards,” commented captain Joe Gallegos. “She has been brought back to her original condition with great care and is now ready for her new owner to see the world."

Hitting the water in 1997, Gitana is a thoroughly well-maintained Feadship that has undergone multiple refits over the years. Her exterior design is by Guido de Groot, while her original interiors are by John Munford.

Gitana’s fresh and convivial styling fits the look of a much younger yacht, with plenty of muted tones, refined accents and natural light. She has a generous sundeck offering a forward-facing Jacuzzi and aft deck lounge area, with alfresco dining situated on the upper deck aft.

Accommodations can host up to 12 guests in five cabins. The owner’s cabin enjoys a spa-style en suite with a freestanding tub set against an elaborate fresco.

The yacht will be redelivered to London’s Canary Wharf in mid-May, where she will be available for select viewings.

Gitana is asking $15,950,000.
