The 29.6-metre Azimut yacht Ramonda has been destroyed in a fire while anchored in Portonovi, a resort marina in Montenegro. According to authorities, the fire broke out at 6.25pm yesterday evening (27 March) and was extinguished by firefighters after several hours of struggle.
"The Portonovi Protection and Rescue Service, as well as the Herceg Novi Protection and Rescue Service, participated in extinguishing the fire," read a statement by the Maritime Safety and Port Management Administration. "Due to the potential danger of an oil spill into the sea, UPSUL members were on standby all the time, as were navigation safety inspectors and PSC inspectors."
Ramonda is estimated to have had 8,000 litres of fuel on board at the time of the blaze. As a result, the yacht was towed out of Portonovi – approximately 150 metres from the shoreline – to prevent the flames from spreading.
While the fire was successfully localised, Ramonda has been confirmed to be destroyed, with imagery revealing a completely melted superstructure and badly damaged hull.
Delivered in 2023, Ramonda is the fifth unit in the Magellano 30 Metri series. Model highlights include a retro-inspired exterior by Ken Freivokh, 270-degree glazing on the upper deck and a cockpit designed to "maximise" ocean views.
The cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries have been reported.
