The essential America's Cup style guide for men

Heading to Bermuda to catch all the America’s Cup action this summer? Whether you’ll be watching from the deck of your yacht, taking part in the racing at the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta or soaking up the atmosphere from the shoreline, look the part with our essential America’s Cup style guide.

Offshore

Take inspiration from the racing

Even if you’re not taking to the helm yourself, look the part on deck in sailing-inspired clothing that is both chic and sporty. Pair Gucci’s anchor-print shirt with Vilebrequin’s linen Bermuda shorts (what else?), a timeless Panama and a pair of classic boat shoes from Timberland for effortless nautical style.

Printed silk crepe de chine shirt, £725, Gucci at Mr Porter; Linen Bermuda shorts, £160, Vilebrequin; Earthkeepers Classic 2-Eye boat shoe, £105, Timberland at Harrods; Panama straw hat, £165, Borsalino at Matches Fashion

On shore

Opt for natural fabrics and contrasting colours

From post-race drinks to prizegiving ceremonies, Bermuda is full of chances to don your finery during the America’s Cup. Choose natural fabrics and contrasting colours – like this silk jacket from Boglioli and cotton trousers by Stefano Ricci – and finish with a pair of elegant Church’s monk strap shoes for easy warm weather formal wear.

Stretch cotton trousers, £750, Stefano Ricci at Harrods; Linen shirt, £375, Loro Piana; Wool and silk-blend blazer, £650, Boglioli at Mr Porter; Chicago leather shoes, €490, Church’s

Watches

Make sure you have three watches in your travel collection

Those who intend to race at the J Class Regatta, America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta or the America’s Cup finals themselves will require three watches for their time in Bermuda. The first, of course, is a classic sailing watch and none are so apt as Panerai’s official America’s Cup watch which features everything a serious sailor needs to get to the starting line on time. Next a great everyday watch with waterproof capabilities for days off spent on shore but, undoubtedly, by the ocean – Tag Heuer’s Aquaracer Chronograph is an excellent choice. Finally, evening events, dinners and parties call for a classic black tie watch and few are more beautiful than Jaeger-LeCoultre’s unusual take on a tourbillon.

Luminor 1950 Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Ceramica 44mm, £12,400, Officine Panerai; Aquaracer Chronograph 43mm, £1,700, Tag Heuer; Hybris Artistica Mysterieuse, POA, Jaeger-LeCoultre

Grooming

Sun protection is a must for any sailor

Salty sea winds and strong sunshine don’t do favours to anyone’s complexion so make sure you’re armed with some great grooming products to combat their effects. Above all else be sure to pack a great sunscreen, such as Lancaster’s Sun Sport Cooling Mist, which is available in SPF 15, 30 and 50, is water and sweat resistant and can be easily sprayed on to wet skin. Revitalise and repair tired skin after a long day at sea with Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment before finishing with a spritz of scent from Miller Harris’ Coeur de Jardin travel set.

Sun Sport Cooling Invisible Mist, £17.90, Lancaster at Notino; Facial Fuel moisturiser, £33, Kiehl’s at Selfridges; Coeur de Jardin travel set, £35, Miller Harris at Feel Unique
