Each yacht is required to have a communications officer and an afterguard member and must submit the name of their RRS-safety guard member and communications officer by April 1, 2017.

All yachts in the racing classes, with exception to yachts racing in the J Class, are required to have a current and valid ORCsy handicap certificate. Please contact the ORC directly to apply either via the ORC website or email orcsy@orc.org

Trophies and Prizes

Series awards for first, second and third place in each class will be presented on Thursday 15th June following the racing that evening.

America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta - Overall Winner

The America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta Trophy presented by Boat International will be presented to the overall winner of the regatta. The yachts eligible for this award will the class winners (cruising superyachts of 80ft or greater) who prevail in the most competitive, closely contested class.

The class with smallest point differential between first and third place finishers will receive 1 point with each class in succession receiving 2, 3 or 4 points for the four classes. Additionally, the class with the least overall time differential (total time/total distance for all 3 races) between the first and third place finishers will receive one point, with each class in succession receiving one additional point as above.

The above mentioned points will be added together for the overall competitive class score. The class with the lowest number of points will be considered the ‘most competitive, closely contested class’.

The winner of this class will be the overall winner of the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta 2017.

Should there be a tie, the class winner with the most yachts in class wins. In the event the tie remains unbroken, the class winner in the class with the lowest time differential factor will be the winner.

Race Course

The racing area is intended to take place northeast, east and south of Bermuda where the water is shallow enough to lay marks and will enable the race committee to set interesting, varying courses for the 3 days of racing. It is planned to run each race for approximately 2.5 - 3 hours for the majority of the fleet (racing time for the fastest and slowest boats in the fleet will be somewhat shorter and longer respectively). The starting area will be close to St Georges Harbour and inflatable marks as opposed to islands, rocks and government buoys will be used.

No course will be the same and will foresee upwind, downwind and reaching starts being in the mix. Course and leg lengths will vary, keeping superyacht sailing characteristics, speed potential and weather conditions in mind.
