The winners of this year's BOAT Artistry & Craft Awards, in association with Parkway England, were presented with bespoke, handmade trophies from award-winning ethical design brand Nature Squared at this year's Superyacht Design Festival, marking a second year of collaboration.
First launched in 2023, the second edition of the awards ceremony took place from 2-4 February in Kitzbühel, Austria. The principal aim of the awards are to celebrate the behind-the-scenes artisans and talented individuals and teams who work tirelessly to craft the finer details found in superyacht interiors.
The award winners were presented with three trophies for Excellence in Craftsmanship, Outstanding Collaborative Creation and Emerging Artisan of The Year, all created by Nature Squared who had "free reign" over the designs.
Praised for their innovative combination of sustainability, traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, it made perfect sense for Nature Squared to collaborate once again with the BOAT Artistry & Craft Awards, which celebrates the unsung artisans of yacht design. Co-founder of Nature Squared, Lay Koon Tan also joined the judging panel for this year's awards.
Using sustainable natural products to produce new materials, Nature Squared created two stunning trophies to commemorate the award winners. Pearl Shell and Dark Pen Shell were combined with copper to create the trophies; by-products of fishing and pearl farming, these shells are repeatedly discarded as waste. Instead, Nature Squared monetises this wasted material, using the profits to help support the livelihoods of pearl farmers and fishermen.
Said by the design brand to be "inspired by the form of a vortex", the trophies signify "a force of nature in themselves" by blending the spheres of craft, nature and sailing. An additional "Judges' Commendation" award took the shape of a pyramid.
