The Marquesas islands

Enjoy a ride from the airport in a 4x4 before meeting 87.6-metre Arctic on Nuku Hiva, the largest of the Marquesas Islands, in French Polynesia. After being greeted by the crew with a refreshing cocktail, take a dive off Taiohae to see the manta rays.

Following a gentle overnight cruise, arrive at the most unusual of the northern Marquesas, Ua Huka, home to wild horses and thousands of seabirds. This is also the spot for diving. Around the islets of Teuaua and Hemeni you will see turtles, sharks and manta rays.

During a relaxing breakfast on board, Arctic will weigh anchor and cruise 56 nautical miles south-east to Hiva Oa. One of the most charismatic islands of the archipelago, it caught the eye of Paul Gauguin, who fell in love with it in the late 19th century. Arrive at dusk to test out some of the toys on board before a candlelit dinner off this verdant island.

Visit Gauguin’s grave in Atuona village on Hiva Oa and pre-colonial sites featuring original petroglyphs and large ancient Tiki statues. South of Hiva Oa, dive around the northern point of Tahuata and encounter thrilling pelagic life. Arctic will begin a cruise 60 nautical miles north-west after dinner.

Draw back the curtains to see the dramatic peaks of Ua Pou looming. The island has remained a source of inspiration for native Marquesan artists and is one of the top locations to see their work. Hike the island or opt for a 4x4 tour to discover the lush valleys.

Arctic will begin her cruise north back to Nuku Hiva, dropping anchor between the two islands. Spend the day making the most of the yacht’s toys and jet skis. Arrive at Hakatea Bay in time for dinner at one of the Marquesas’ most scenic anchorages.

Head out on a challenging morning hike to the waterfalls of Hakaui or take a snorkelling safari with hundreds of melon-headed whales. When you are feeling refreshed and relaxed, the crew will see you off the yacht to fly back from Nuku Hiva to Tahiti International Airport.
