Royal Huisman has shared stunning video of its 46.45 metre award-winning superyacht Elfje under sail in the Caribbean.
Elfje – a sailing superyacht of the ages– has stayed out of the limelight since her delivery in summer 2014, but made her public and racecourse debut at the St Barths Bucket Regatta 2015. The video below was shared to allow a sneak preview of Elfje's prowess sailing in the waters of the Caribbean before the race.
The Spirit of Tradition class in regattas is bringing together yachts like Elfje, with traditional looks and modern underpinnings, onto racecourses around the world. While she has classic pilot cutter looks above the waterline, the Royal Huisman NextGen ketch sports a modern hull design and is designed for the pure performance. Elfje features exterior styling, interior layout and naval architecture from Hoek Design Naval Architects. Her interior is by Redman Whiteley Dixon.
Elfje won her designers at Hoek the ShowBoats Design Award 2015 for Naval Architecture – Sailing Yacht. The judges lauded her modern underbody, which is not unlike that of a flat-out racing yacht.
Built for an experienced owner, the brief called upon her naval architects to research the design variations and create a yacht that could be as fast as possible while still offering long-range, comfortable sailing. Elfje displaces 234 tons and has a draft of 2.5 metres with her keel up and a 7.1 metre fixed draft.
Another Royal Huisman yacht joining in the St Barths Bucket 2015 competition is 51.59 metre sailing yacht Meteor, currently for sale – see photos, details and specifications.
