The CEO of Polish shipyard Sunreef Yachts, Francis Lapp, has joined renowned explorer and Sunreef ambassador Mike Horn for the “What’s Left” expedition leg in Greenland, taking place on board the 32-metre sailing yacht Pangaea.
The expedition, supported by the shipyard, is exploring remote locations onboard the refitted sailing yacht. Pangaea is providing a mobile platform for research, adventure and experiences with a mission to focus on raising awareness of climate change and evaluating global environmental changes.
The South African-born adventurer and keynote speaker at the 2023 Explorer Yachts Summit, Mike Horn, explained: “Guiding my sailing vessel Pangaea, I return to iconic and wild locations to witness changes, fulfil more desires on my adventurer’s bucket list, and inspire people to act on their passions. I prioritise adventure and environment at each destination, sharing stories and footage from my journey.”
The refit of Pangaea, christened after the ancient supercontinent, was completed by Sunreef Yachts in a bid to prepare the yacht and enhance its comfort ahead of the forthcoming global expedition.
Sunreef Yachts CEO and founder Francis Lapp said: “I decided to participate in this remarkable expedition with the dual purpose of being part of the extraordinary exploration in Greenland and personally assessing the planet's current state. The experience has served as a profound motivation for me to continue to act for a sustainable future within the yachting industry.”
The programme continues on from Pangaea's four-year circumnavigation to report signs of climate change and inspire further positive environmental action. Other destinations will include the Arctic, the Amazon jungle, Antarctica, Patagonia, the Australian desert, New Zealand, northern Canada, Alaska and Asia, with Horn and her crew spending up to six months in each.
