Genoa-based shipyard Otam has announced the start of construction on the 27.7 metre Otam 90 GT. Soon to become the new flagship of the yard’s Fast & Iconic series, the model has a “big-boat mentality”, with a compact footprint and a loadline measuring under 24 metres.
The sporty model has been commissioned for an experienced yachtsman looking to add a new vessel to their existing fleet. Set for delivery in 2024, the first Otam 90 GT will be used primarily as a luxurious day boat.
“Because our boats are often used as chase boats for larger vessels, our clients are looking to approach a medium-sized yacht with the same level of freedom of customisation that you’d normally find on a superyacht,” said Matteo Belardinelli, Otam’s commercial director.
To fill this niche, Otam has ingrained plenty of scope for customisation into its latest GRP model. These include the option of an opening hard top or a soft top with full or half-height side windows. Owners can add or remove a side passage door and choose to have a single or double hull window in the master suite amidships.
According to the yard, these are “more than mere ‘options’. These features require structural, engineering and design modifications in order to meet or exceed client expectations.”
“Large series production drives you towards certain production processes, but that’s not us,” added Belardinelli. “We are craftspeople and even though we compete in the same market, we consider ourselves to be artisans first and boatbuilders second.”
Giuseppe Bagnardi, of BG Design Firm, has crafted the yacht’s chiselled exterior. Onboard highlights include an airy cockpit and a generous forward lounge with sofa seating and sunpads.
The yacht will have a beam of six metres and a fuel capacity of 8000 litres. Twin MTU engines will give the Otam 90 GT a top speed in excess of 40 knots.
