Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage’s Nicolas Marchand represented the buyer and seller in the recent sale of the 62-metre three-masted schooner Atlantic.
She was built of steel in the Netherlands by Van der Graaf in 2010, under the watchful eye of Dutchman Ed Kastelein and naval architect Doug Peterson. The powerful black-hulled replica yacht has an exterior profile, dating to 2003, drawn by Gardner & Cox of New York.
The original was commissioned by New York Yacht Club member Wilson Marshall and broke the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing from New York to Cornwall, clocking up 341 miles in 24 hours.
Atlantic sleeps 12 guests in six cabins and has quarters for a crew of 12. Ample stowage is provided in drawers below the beds and the master cabin has a seating area with coffee table as well as glass-fronted bookshelves. Her traditionally-finished interior includes an inviting full-beam saloon and dining room, the table seating 12.
Teak decks, surrounded by raised bulwarks, are complemented by the gloss-varnished deckhouses. The three masts tower overhead and the feeling of power when under sail in a good breeze is extraordinary.
The 268GT, BV-classed yacht has a single 829hp Yanmar diesel giving her a cruising speed of 9 to 11 knots. Her draft is five metres.
Atlantic was last asking €12,000,000 and lying in the South of France.
