Porto Montenegro is named Superyacht Marina of the Year

2 February 2015

Porto Montenegro has been named Superyacht Marina of the Year 2015 by The Yacht Harbour Association in the UK.

The award comes as the marina expands with 50 more berths to add it its existing 420 dedicated superyacht berths, catering for yachts up to 180 metres. The site opened in 2009 and the new berths should be ready for this summer. Porto Montenegro’s marina utilises the existing infrastructure of the former Yugoslav naval facility upon which it is built. The marina is complemented by five private residential buildings, totalling 130 apartments of which all are sold, a five star Regent Hotel and shops, restaurants, sports and leisure facilities.

The awards were announced after more than 3,000 boat owners and berth holders nominated 84 marinas. The association is part of the British Marine Federation and runs a Gold Anchor rating system for its voluntary members. Yacht owners were invited to vote in the Marina of the Year Awards, choosing their favourite marinas within different categories, including UK coastal, UK inland, International and Superyacht. The nominees had to be chosen from among those marinas which had already received Gold Anchor commendations.

Porto Montenegro will be the venue for the inaugural Superyacht Rendezvous Montenegro, hosted by Boat International Media, taking place 2-5 July, 2015. The Superyacht Rendezvous Montenegro welcomes yacht owners and their guests for a sociable event making the most of their motor and sailing yachts 30m-plus in the company of like-minded peers and in the beautiful setting of the up-and-coming paradise of Montenegro.

Runner up in the superyacht category for Marina of the Year was Rodney Bay Marina in St. Lucia, managed by IGY Marinas. The marina has 32 fixed concrete docks for superyachts up to 86 metres, high-speed fuelling and other services. There are also restaurants, bars and a provisioning service on site and the marina holds several events throughout the season.
