Italian watch-maker Panerai has continued its partnership with German Automative company Brabus to present a water-resistant timepiece designed to be worn on the waves.
On display at the Palma International Boat Show 2022, the Panerai Submersible S Brabus Blue Shadow Edition combines the best of both respective brands in its design and functionality. This is the second time the two brands have come together, with a first submersible timepiece released in September 2021.
Hands down one of the best “diving watches” out there now, the timepiece is armed with the new P.4001/S caliber, a skeletonised movement based on the P.4000 caliber.
The striking watch boasts breakthrough technology both inside and out. Bi-directional winding is aided by a one-piece off-centred oscillating weight, whereby the two spring barrels efficiently wind-up while the watch is worn. The oscillating rotor is made from tungsten and enables the movement and therefore the watch itself to be far thinner and lighter.
Wearers of the new product can enjoy features such as a GMT function, an AM/PM indicator, and three-days of power reserve. Not only this, but the patented polarised date display offers a view of the date indication only through the opening at 3 o’clock, without revealing the rest of the date wheel or concealing the workings of the movement.
Time will tell whether the Blue Shadow Edition is as popular as the brand’s Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition, but the latest product of the Panerai/Brabus collaboration certainly ticks a lot of boxes.
Water resistant to 30 bar, the Panerai Submersible S Brabus Blue Shadow Edition features two straps – a bi-material option combining black rubber and leather, and a second in deep blue rubber.
Brabus and Panerai have deeply rooted legacies, as well as a shared passion for marine high-performance. The watch’s unique design is a culmination of these two colliding worlds of premium horology and elite day boating. Fans of Brabus will note the inspiration drawn from the signature design cues of the Brabus Shadow series of boats.
On the face of it, the Blue Shadow Edition’s radical design perhaps isn’t one for the purists, but after a few days of wrist-action the authentic Swiss watchmaking tradition that underlines all Panerai’s timepieces becomes clear to see.
Matching the Brabus Shadow 900 Deep Blue luxury day-boat, which will likewise celebrate its debut at Palma, the watch is finished in an array of blue and grey tones. The watch will be strictly limited to only 200 pieces worldwide.
Other key details include a diameter of 47mm, a DMLS titanium case and a Carbotech bezel. For protection, the watch also features a titanium safety lock crown protection device.
