Andrew Winch to speak at the Superyacht Design Festival 2025

30 September 2024 • Written by Lucy Dunn

Andrew Winch has been announced as one of the speakers at the Superyacht Design Festival in Kitzbühel on 2-4 February 2025. Winch will join editor-in-chief Stewart Campbell to reflect on his remarkable career at the pinnacle of luxury yacht design.

One of the most celebrated designers of his generation, Winch first discovered a love of sailing working as a skipper in the Caribbean. He then became an apprentice, working for the late great Jon Bannenberg. His passion for yachts would persist through adulthood and inform his entire life’s work, leading him and his wife Jane, as designer and company manager, to establish Winch Design in 1986. Winch Design's first project was to design the interior and exterior of a Swan 36ft sailboat, which soon led to the creation of other, bigger projects.

Fast forward three decades later and Winch Design is now recognised as one of the world’s leading international studios with a portfolio that spans interiors, exteriors, private aviation and superyachts, including Sparta, Phoenix II, Come Together,  Here Comes The Sun,  Cloud 9 (now Samsara). Winch Design's has not only delivered some of the most iconic designs of the 21st century, but it has won many prestigious awards. Come Together, for example, scooped a gong in the 2023 World Superyacht Awards (Displacement Yachts 1000GT to 1400GT category), while Sparta earned a Judges' Commendation in the same category.

Attendees can expect an exciting lineup covering all areas within the sector. This year’s talks include presentations by top New York kinetic artist Zolty and immersive film-maker Cinesite, an update on the much-anticipated sailing proposition Project Zero, panel discussions on nuclear and hull innovation and a special talk from the designers of the Paris Olympics’ silver horse, the semi-submerged catamaran that ‘flew’ along the River Seine at the opening ceremony.
