Brokerage report: September show season supplies generous boost to yacht sales

18 October 2024 • by Nick Jeffery

Data from BOATPro showed that 23 brokerage yacht sales (24 metres and above) were completed in September 2024, with a total value* of €354 million.

While this appears to be a significant drop in value from September 2023 – which recorded 27 sales totalling €567.7 million – last year's figure was heavily bolstered by the sale of the Harrison Eidsgaard-designed Lürssen Madsummer (asking €227.5 million at the time of her sale). Excluding that single transaction, the total sales value in September 2024 shows an improvement from last year by €14 million.

The value of sales in September 2024 was also more than three times that of August 2024, largely thanks to the start of the European boat show season, with further momentum likely to come from the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

The average value of brokerage sales was down, coming to €16.9 million in September 2024 against €21.8 million at this same point last year. However, September 2023's figure was also skewed upwards by the aforementioned sale of Madsummer. Removing that single transaction shows average value is up on September 2023 by 29 per cent.

September's brokerage sales were double those of August, the increase in activity largely due to the excitement of the show season kicking off

The most expensive sale in September was the Winch-designed, 90-metre Lürssen yacht Phoenix 2, asking €125,000,000 and sold with Burgess representing the buyer and Burgess and Cecil Wright representing the seller.

Price drops were substantially less than those from the previous year, with 55 in September 2024 totalling €44.9 million against 70 drops in September 2023 totalling €65.7 million.

A €5 million drop on the 65-metre Polar Star was the largest reduction in September 2024. She is now asking €49 million with joint central agents Merle Wood & Associates and Eastwind Yachts.
