Trump administration disbands task force targeting Russian assets

Under President Donald Trump, the US Justice Department is shutting down Task Force KleptoCapture and the Kleptocracy Assets Recovery Initiative (KARI), designed to enforce sanctions and target the assets of oligarchs close to the Kremlin following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. 

A memo from Attorney General Pam Bondi, seen by Reuters, said that resources currently devoted to Task Force KleptoCapture will be redirected to countering drug cartels and international gangs as part of a wider shift in the department's focus.
