Maine lawmakers seek to impose tax on superyachts

US legislators have drafted a proposal to impose a new tax on superyachts in Maine.

Under the proposed legislation, private yachts would be subject to an "impact fee" of $10 per foot of length over 150 feet (45.72 metres) for every consecutive day that it is docked in a municipality that collects slip fees, up to 30 days. 

For a 200-foot yacht (61 metres), this would mean a fee of $2,000 per day.
