In light of the growing marina shortage, BOATPro spoke to Ra’anan Ben-Zur, founder and CEO of Habacoa, to learn about the difficulties facing superyachts in the US and Caribbean region and why he decided to build North America’s largest superyacht marina.
When the world’s largest sailing superyacht, Koru, arrived in South Florida this past November, the 125.8-metre vessel was forced to drop anchor in the Port Everglades cruise port, having been met with an exceedingly limited supply of suitable parking locations. Too big to fit with neighbouring private yachts, Koru was consigned – in a bizarre image – to her place among commercial oil tankers and other large freight ships.
