5 reasons to invest in superyacht Sovereign

Own a yacht with tremendous volume

55 metre motor yacht Sovereign has been listed for sale with Northrop & Johnson. We went on board this incredible vessel at the 2016 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to interview her brokers and see for ourselves what makes her such a brilliant investment.

1. Own a yacht with tremendous volume

Upon entering Sovereign’s large main saloon, it wasn't long before someone asked "How big is she?". When the broker responded with 55 metres, the look of surprise on everyone's faces said it all... a reaction that is apparently not uncommon. The reason her length is something of an illusion is because of her 1,100 gross tonnage – a similar volume to that of most 60-65 metre boats.

If it’s value for money you’re after, then purchasing a superyacht that appears 10 metres longer than it actually is is a sound reason to make an investment.

Proven quality and pedigree

Besides her massive volume, Sovereign’s sturdiness means she can go absolutely anywhere in the world. The flagship of Florida-based Newcastle Marine, a company renowned for building expedition style yachts, she adheres to the strict rules established by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and also the British Maritime & Coast Guard Agency (MCA). It was therefore not a surprise to learn during our interview that she safely and securely crosses the Atlantic twice a year.

With Sovereign you really do have the capability of taking an 8,000 square foot home anywhere you want in the world, whenever you want.

Great charter potential

From her excellent exterior areas, such as the split-level sun deck, spacious beach club and inviting infinity pool, to her generous indoor entertainment areas, including her bar and movie theatre with reclining armchairs (as seen in our video), Sovereign will satisfy both the sun worshippers and the night owls in a charter party.

Families are also welcome on board. The highly attentive and friendly crew are happy to keep the kids busy with the yacht’s packed toy box while the talented chef can cook up a storm tailored to everyone’s tastes – even the fussiest of children.

Exquisite interior decor

Interior design by Claudette Bonville has resulted in the perfect mix of opulent luxury and home comforts. The expansive sky lounge, as seen in our video here, feels light and airy with 10 foot high ceilings while the owner benefits from 270-degree ocean views in their cabin.

Sovereign takes your favourite features of a land-based property and transports it to the ocean, meaning you won't have to deal with the common ‘dark and stuffy’ compromise that many yacht owners make. Because of her impressive design, she was a finalist at both the ShowBoats Design Awards and the World Superyacht Awards in 2012.

Sovereign has had two very experienced owners in her five years, meaning she has been given the finest care throughout her life. They spent the entire period of ownership perfecting the boat and spending the money necessary to keep her looking immaculate meaning both her interior and exterior spaces are still in excellent condition.

Best of both worlds

Big enough to cruise the world but compact enough to berth in St Barths and some of the smaller marinas in the Mediterranean, you really do get the best of both worlds with Sovereign.

It is rare to find a superyacht that can comfortably accommodate 16 guests in sizeable living spaces whilst also being able to dock at some of the world’s most stunning destinations usually only accessible to smaller yachts. As her broker says, if you’re looking for a capable yacht, that is very large by most standards but is still manageable, Sovereign really would be the perfect option.
