Boat International Media has announced the impressive list of 62 superyachts named finalists for the 2014 World Superyacht Awards – but there is still one award open to finalists with the Voyager's Award welcoming nominations until 10 February, 2014.
The main categories in the 2014 World Superyacht Awards recognise the finest new sailing and motor superyachts delivered in the previous calendar year, while the Voyager's Award focuses on the owners who make use of these yachts to roam the world. The Voyager's Award invites entries from yacht owners or yacht charterers of yachts more than 30 metres in length that have undertaken a voyage of an unusual or exploratory nature during a two-year period between 1 January, 2012, and 31 December, 2013.
The Voyager's Award seeks to recognise yacht owners and charterers with an adventurous spirit along with their superyachts that have traveled to largely uncharted territories or interesting places around the world. Entries can include explorer style or converted yachts, often purpose built or refitted to suit such a voyage and boasting ice-strengthened hulls, submarines, and 4x4 vehicles.
The winner of the 2013 Voyager's Award was the owners of 37.6m Marama. She was built as an expedition yacht by Delta for owners Kevin and Teresa Jaffé, and since her launch in 2008 she has explored the world. In the summer of 2012, Marama cruised northwards from Seattle to Glacier Bay, Alaska, and undertook a three-month, 3,200-mile journey. While Alaska is not the furthest flung of destinations around the world, the judges recognised Marama and her owners due to the thoroughness for which the Alaska coastline was explored, the fascinating experiences they had along the way and notably for the way in which the cruise was documented with excellent photography and video capturing the hearts of the judges.
Now Boat International Media in conjunction with Alloy Yachts, award sponsor and partner in the World Superyacht Awards, are looking for equally adventuresome owners and yachts to apply for this year's Voyager's Award.
This year's recipient will be named at the gala evening awards ceremony of the 2014 World Superyacht Awards in Amsterdam on 3 May, 2014.
