The 33.60m 1955 Abeking & Rasmussen yacht SANS SOUCI is offered for sale, and following several years of painstaking restoration, she is a yacht that commands respect everywhere she goes and evokes a sense of nostalgia in all who look upon her.SANS SOUCI’s naval architecture is by American yacht designer Geerd N. Hendel, who was tasked by the yacht’s first Owner to create a fast motor yacht based on his Coastal Corvette series of military vessels. The result was a stunningly beautiful example of German construction, double-planked teak on oak frames, with an aluminium ring frame every five. Under her original name of VERDESEIN, she was strong and light, and was an immediate success. In 2009 SANS SOUCI underwent a major, several-year-long rebuild at Italy’s renowned Del Carlo yard, which specialises in wooden construction, and both her exteriors and interiors stay true to the character bestowed on them by Hendel. The interior of SANS SOUCI is something very special – it is highly unusual to see this level of attention to detail given. The Owner scoured all over Europe to find the original fittings he desired to create the unique 1920s’ decor of the yacht. Light fittings, furniture, objects d’art and door handles, all blend into a sumptuous and perfectly coordinated homogenous whole – a real masterpiece.Sliding teak doors lead from the outdoor dining space into the salon, where wood panelling creates a warm atmosphere. There is room for two sofas facing each other and a coffee table, while a wall of mirrors separates the salon from the galley and guest accommodation.SANS SOUCI can accommodate eight guests across four cabins, including an Owner’s suite positioned forward on the main deck, which comes with a central-line bed and a marble en suite. The rest of the guest accommodation can be found on the lower deck and includes a VIP cabin, a double cabin, and a twin, all with en-suite facilities. There is also space on board for eight crew across four cabins, ensuring a high level of one-to-one service.Outside, ladders from the coach roof lead up to the flybridge from where the yacht can be helmed, and guests can keep the captain company as they enjoy panoramic views or just make the most of the sunny weather. The engine room has been upgraded to meet the standards of a modern superyacht, and with just a few alterations to the engine room insulation, SANS SOUCI could be put into Maltese commercial class.Other modern amenities, such as zero-speed stabilisers and satellite communications, have been carefully and almost invisibly integrated into the fully restored hull.
