Southern Wind Shipyard
Located in Cape Town, South Africa, luxury yacht builder Southern Wind designs and manufactures sailing yachts from 21.9 to 35.05 metres in length.
History of Southern Wind Shipyard
Neopolitan entrepreneur Willy Persico led luxury yacht builder Cantieri Navali Rodriguez until 1990, when he decided to build a sailing yacht for himself. In looking for a shipyard to build that yacht, Aga Jari, designed by noted naval architect Ron Holland, led Persico to the shipyard Cenmarinein Cape Town. In 1991, Persico was able to purchase the shipyard and founded luxury sailing yacht builder Southern Wind. With a shipyard and a full staff with over 320 people, Southern Wind went on to produce composite sailing yachts with a combination of advanced technology and quality craftsmanship.
Notable Southern Wind Shipyard Builds
The success of the Farr 72 series, designed by well-known naval architects Farr Yacht Design, brought Southern Wind to the attention of the sailing world. In 2012, luxury yacht builder Southern Wind launched the sailing superyacht series SW 102, designed by Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Yacht Design, with Hull No. 1, Almagores II. Superyachts Atalante and Farfalla soon followed in the series.
