SEQUOIA for charter
Sequoia is the most sumptuous, safest and state-of-the-art yacht in Indonesia. Her owner spent four years overseeing her bespoke build. The result is a 26m hand-built wooden schooner, custom made to cruise the 18,000 island archipelago.
Her cruising grounds off West Papua, the Molucca and Lesser Sunda Islands comprise the most biodiverse seas on planet earth. Some 1,000 species of fish cavort around 500 species of coral. Whales sharks are a common sight; manta rays are a daily presence. Her PADI dive centre is well utilised. Not least as three of the world’s top dive sights lie within sailing distance.
By combining timeless craftsmanship with the latest marine technology from the United States, including low-consumption engine, generators and sanitation systems, Sequoia can tiptoe through Indonesia with a minimal carbon footprint. The finest materials promise silent running when under sail. While single use plastics have been eliminated throughout.
Unlike phinisi, the larger traditional craft also built on the beaches of Sulawesi, Sequoia layout is based around three sumptuous suites and several lounging decks. Each one is finished in local hardwoods and cool organic fabrics. With a draft of just 2m, rather than 4m for longer vessels, she can reach intimate beaches for volcanic hikes amid tropical rainforest guarded by macaque monkeys and flying foxes.
Sequoia’s crew of ten is entirely Indonesian. The cruise manager, butler and dive master have intimate knowledge of every island, sight or scuba reef. Children are warmly greeted with an extensive treasure chest of low impact toys, including paddleboards, kayaks, snorkels and games.
The chef is particularly adept at sourcing fresh, local ingredients; perfect for alfresco dinners on the skydeck of otak-otak fish-in-banana-leaf antipasti and prawn sambal mains. All diets are ably catered for. Note an additional wine cellar stocked with vintages from the Napa Valley and Burgundy.
Safe and ecologically conscious cruising were watchwords of the owner. Hand-picked navigation, propulsion and guardrail systems raise Sequoia to US Coast Guard safety standards - the only yacht in Indonesian waters with such a rating. She also conforms to EPA Tier 2 and Tier 3 emissions limits.
