Right up until a 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked southeast Turkey in February, the Turkish charter market had been booming, as explained by Özgür Cengiz, TYBA board member/show committee member and owner of Turkish yachting services company, 4U Yachting. In the wake of the shocks, however, demand dropped off just as the market would have been entering what is typically a bustling summer charter season.
“The slowdown really had nothing to do with the charter business,” Cengiz told BOATPro News. “People I’ve spoken to after [the earthquake] said they felt apprehensive approaching charter in Turkey while there was this terrible situation going on.”
