Italian superyacht design studio Nauta Design first revealed the hybrid 54-metre yacht concept – 54m Wide – in May 2021. Now the initial engineering has been completed to a naval architecture from Francesco Rogantin’s Studio Names, we take a look at five of the best design features to expect on board…

Large 860 GT interior in a sleek 54m yacht

“The basic concept behind the Nauta 54m Wide started with requests from clients who wanted plenty of room on board to accommodate a family in comfort, but not a yacht that was too big to moor in picturesque places like St Tropez or intimate bays in the Balearics,” says Mario Pedol, co-founder of Nauta Design in Milan. “So instead of focussing on length overall, we widened the beam to 11 metres and developed an innovative general arrangement.”

As a result, the 54m Wide has enough space for accommodation for up to 16 guests in eight en-suite cabins. The low-slung exterior lines provides the yacht with a simple styling and still looks poised and graceful on the water despite being a high-volume yacht for her length.

‘The Island’ system of folding platforms

This design feature (a system patented by Nauta) creates an uninterrupted walkway along three sides of the yacht’s large beach club. This area doubles up as a garage for water toys and a tender of 9 metres. With the addition of 'the Island', the total surface area of the beach club increases to 100 sqm.

Single-level engine room

The yacht’s propulsion is comprised of a diesel-electric system which allows for a flexible distribution of kit. The six generators and twin 1000 kW electric motors are stored on the under lower deck, freeing up a large chunk of the lower deck for other purposes.

Smart interior layout

It is the interior layout that ultimately makes this steel and aluminium motor yacht concept different from any other in her class. Ordinarily, the beach club and tender garage would neighbour the engine room, but by relocating the engine room to the deck below six ensuite guest cabins have been placed in the space with one cabin able to transform into a gym and spa. A crew mess, dedicated laundry and crew accommodation is also located on the lower deck forward.

Private main deck

The 75-square-metre master suite with a private office is on the main deck forward. The large walk-in wardrobe in the master stateroom is cleverly placed to eliminate any possible noise from the galley filtering into the owner’s area. Plus, a VIP suite to starboard opposite the galley can also be used as a cabin for staff or children.

With sliding glass side doors on both sides, the nearby 78-square-metre main saloon and dining room overlooks the open aft deck and double stairs down to the swim platform. Up on the upper deck, the sky lounge provides “an intimate, chill-out zone” ideal for watching TV, while al fresco dining is possible on the furnished open aft deck.
