Adam Voorhees Design
History
Superyacht designer Adam Voorhees made his mark in 2010 when he won Boat International Media’s Young Designer of the Year award for his innovative approach with Ra, a 66 metre concept that explored the transformability of space and interactions with light. Among its features were main deck bulwarks that dropped down like giant balconies to create an impressive main deck exterior space.
Voorhees always had ambitions to be a superyacht designer, and aged five was already drawing yacht profiles and interior arrangements. He studied at the University of Arizona and then at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, before setting up his design studio in 2009.
Notable yachts
Adam Voorhees superyacht designs include a number of notable concepts such as 65 metre motor yacht Van Triumph in conjunction with Northrop and Johnson Asia, an innovative supermaxi that can adapt its shape according to the conditions, and the 92 metre superyacht Lumen. He also worked on the refit design of 25 metre sailing yacht Sleighride, and created the interior for the 48-foot F48 production sailing yacht from Farnova Yachts in China, the first one of which was launched in 2010.
Specialisations
Voorhees also applies his design knowledge to other areas including furniture, interior décor and unusual technological designs such as a modular, surface mounted speaker system. He has collaborated with a number of well-known shipyards, including Lürssen for the design of 91 metre motor yacht Aurora based on Lürssen’s proven hull platform.
