Built for crew by crew, Starboard Card is preparing to launch this year.
Starboard Card is now looming large on the horizon. This exciting onboard expense management platform, accompanied by other innovative products and services, is set to revolutionise yacht accounting with its launch later this year.
Starboard was founded by CEO Dan Lane, who has a passion for technology and understands the challenges of yacht accounting. He developed an interest in sailing during Cowes Week a few years ago and is now an avid sailor.
While sailing sparked his passion, the industry ignited his entrepreneurial side, and his fintech and yachting interests coalesced into creating Starboard Card. Lane has gathered a team that is experienced in finance and yachting and has set out to redefine expense management. The team has created an intuitive and flexible system that will make onboard expense management simple.
Centralising superyacht finances
Starboard features three essential components: the Visa Infinite Debit Card; dynamic accounts in multiple currencies; and tailored, yachting-specific accountancy software. The Visa Infinite Debit Card enables crew members to access required funds, while the account holder retains account control and can monitor spending. The Starboard Account, offering pounds, euros and US dollars, simplifies currency exchange and provides access to major payment networks, including SWIFT, SEPA and Faster Payments. Starboard offers a secure, easy solution that harnesses the latest financial technology for yacht owners, captains and yacht managers worldwide.
Enhanced card, web and mobile app services will be available. These will offer real-time accounting functionalities with the Visa Infinite Debit Card. Users will be able to easily track money transfers and virtual cards, create customisable reports, approve quotes and generate separate APAs. They will also be able to freeze or deactivate lost or stolen cards, query suspicious transactions and upload receipts quickly. All offline updates will be automatically synchronised once in network range.
Starboard Card’s APA Management System will easily compile reports and budget outlines for multiple scenarios, whether an end-of-charter reconciliation or a cost overview for upcoming refits or new-build projects. The data will also be exportable in a variety of formats.
Also on its way is Starboard Intel, a new compliance offering born of the company’s strong understanding of the requirements of vetting clients and connections. The risk management, intelligence and investigations consultancy will use investigators with corporate, government or law enforcement backgrounds to work closely with teams of specialist researchers and analysts. They will create comprehensive risk management solutions and provide operational support.
Starboard Card’s global support team is available 24/7. They take personalised service very seriously, and each member is assigned a dedicated relationship manager specialising in yacht accounting. The goal is to build strong personal relationships to enrich the user experience, with regular check-ins to allow the service to be continuously refined to suit client needs.
The Starboard Card team will be on the dock at the forthcoming Monaco Yacht Show, so reach out for an appointment by contacting them today.
