Returning to the French capital for the first time since 1924, the Olympic Games will open on 26 July with a grand ceremony held along the banks of the River Seine and, once the medals have been claimed, records set and victors crowned, will conclude on 11 August with a finale at the city’s Stade de France.
Now, fans eager to soak up the atmosphere and witness the sporting excellence are being offered a new luxury model to experience the Olympic Games like never before. Olympic Games Paris 2024 sailing events
Sailing events will be held in the beautiful Mediterranean port city of Marseille from 28 July to 8 August, with 330 athletes competing for medals in 10 men’s, women’s and mixed dinghy, skiff and multihull classes, as the ICLA 7, ILCA 6, 470, Nacra 17, 49er and 49erFX from Tokyo 2020 all return. Two new categories will also be introduced in 2024: windsurfer iQFoil and kiteboarding.
The sailing ground off Marseille is ideal, with relatively constant winds and an absence of current and tides, and spectators will have excellent views from a 14,000-capacity purpose-built area with seating and standing at Roucas-Blanc Marina, known as Marseille Marina for the duration of the Olympic Games.
“Marseille is passionate about sailing, and I believe the Marseille Marina will be one of the great venues of the Olympic Games Paris 2024,” says Quanhai Li, president of World Sailing. The journey is only three hours from Paris by train [or a 1.5-hour flight], and fans who visit will experience fantastic sport in a fantastic city.”
