Comfort is all about space; at least that is the number one factor when it comes to yacht building at boutique shipyard St-Barth Yachting. With trends in superyacht new builds frequently revolving around packing more into less, this Dutch boat builder is doing exactly that. Think compact, easy-to-operate boats with spacious interiors, an abundance of outdoor areas and 360-degree views; all complemented by sporty designs, high-quality outfitting and durable materials. BOAT takes a look at the yard’s latest two models…
Founded five years ago, St-Barth Yachting was born from an unsuccessful yacht search. “I could not find the boat I was looking for in the market, so I decided to make it by myself,” shares Frank Bart, founder of St-Barth Yachting and owner of the St-Barth 75. “With my experience as a contractor in the top segment for 25 years, and as a designer and contractor of our wellness resort, Fort Resort Beemster, I thought I would be able to realise my new dream.”
In the hunt for a new yacht and equipped with his own career experience, Bart explains the importance of space when it comes to luxury and comfort, and how this has become so pivotal to the St-Barth builds: “I had learned a lot about how I would like to experience spaces. For me, this is key to how to build houses and from now on, also yachts. How can you optimise all the spaces so they feel larger than they really are. True comfort lies in the experience of space and the sort of space you have.”
With the focus on space also comes the focus on family. St-Barth Yachting prides itself on family life being paramount to the designs on board. Where might often lie a tight galley on yachts of the same size, instead, on the St-Barth 75, lies a large living-dining-kitchen area for families and friends to relax in the heart of the boat.
Building boutique
Despite being young to the industry, the yard is not young in experience, demonstrated by a dedicated team brimming with building expertise. “We ourselves are keen and very experienced yachtsmen, and know therefore by heart what works on a yacht and what does not; we know what a yacht needs," Bart notes.
With a small but passionate team and a founder who wants the same for owners as he himself would want, clients can expect a personal and dedicated approach to construction, as well as flexibility and full quality control.
What’s more, the yard is not scared of pushing boundaries. Bart comments: “We’re not afraid to try things that are not in the yacht building manual; it’s in our genes and it’s what we do best. We love to team up with owners who, like us, think differently, and who are looking for new ideas and insights.”
Superyacht standards in ‘mini-size’
The Dutch brand makes an excellent alternative to the usual standard of boats associated with this market sector. Built with aluminium hulls and superstructures, clients can expect the highest levels of build and finish with no compromise on quality.
So, it comes as no surprise that the yard’s first model, the St-Barth 75, gained plenty of attention during her exhibition at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival.
Described by the yard as feeling as spacious as a 29-metre superyacht in 23.85 metres, the St-Barth 75 offers not only an optimised interior, with four ensuite cabins and accommodation for up to eight guests but also an array of impressive features, including a foredeck jacuzzi and a full-beam beach club. Her non-traditional onboard layout is perfectly accompanied by a sporty exterior by AR Design and naval architecture by Wijk Yacht Creations.
Designed and built for the St-Barth Yachting founder to cruise the Mediterranean Sea without the need for crew, the St-Barth 75 can in fact be navigated by only two people, with the option of crew if preferred. She is easy to handle with impressive manoeuvrability, 360-degree visibility and low engine noise levels for a smooth and comfortable cruising experience.
Packed with innovation
Following a summer cruising the Med on board the St-Barth 75, Bart and the St-Barth team realised the model's potential, and so the St-Barth 85 Fly came to life.
Currently in build and due for completion in 2025, the 26-metre yacht offers the same qualities as the 75 but with greater efficiency, further interior volume optimisation, more innovative features and improved crew accommodation. She has four ensuite cabins, accommodating eight guests, with a grand open-plan saloon and galley, foredeck jacuzzi and a four-metre-wide swim platform at the stern.
Despite her additional two metres, the 85 can remarkably also be operated by only two people; holding the same CE Ocean A small license as the St-Barth 75. Like the 75, a five-person tender is also hidden below deck to maintain an aesthetic, tidy profile whilst ensuring ease of access.
Perfect for those bored of ‘off-the-shelf’ options
Both currently listed for sale with Moravia Yachting, these motor yachts are an excellent choice for those looking to stand out from the crowd with something special.
“These yachts offer the buyer a chance to own a luxury motor yacht that is truly unique in class,” says Tim Carbury, listing broker at Moravia Yachting. “These full-custom, Dutch-built ‘mini superyachts’ are the work of a shipyard that is meticulous in its detail and attention to all aspects of the build. Their aluminium hulls and superstructures, quality of technical fit out, and use of superior materials throughout are just a few of the features that mean these should be considered by any serious buyer looking for a top-quality yacht of this size.”
