Built by Australian shipyard NQEA Yachts, specialling in military and commercial shipbuilding, the 43-metre Flying Manta has risen onto the brokerage market. In pristine condition, the 345GT explorer is a perfect match for adventure enthusiasts seeking to explore the world's most remote areas. BOAT takes a closer look at her standout features…
Comfort is key
Designed with an exterior by NQEA Yachts and an interior by Ivo Enrico Poluzzi Architetto, Flying Manta boasts features that ensure maximum guest comfort. She accommodates up to 12 guests in six staterooms, including the rare luxury of two master cabins.
A notable area on board is the yacht's beach club at the stern, boasting a spacious swim platform. Fishing enthusiasts can cast a line from the game fishing chair and savour their catch on the onboard barbecue and for the ultimate indulgence, fresh oysters and lobsters are kept in recirculating seawater tanks. Two Gyro Seakeeper 35 models and fin stabilisers enhance stability and comfort. Above, the main deck aft cockpit is fully enclosed with air conditioning, transforming into a cosy winter garden.
Flying Manta remains in pristine condition with only two owners since her launch and never having been chartered. The large professional galley and a dedicated full-time crew of eight ensure impeccable service and cuisine.
“Flying Manta is a unique blend of adventure, performance, luxury and versatility,” says Peter Redford, managing director of Fraser Australia. “Her exceptional features, including potential dual master suites and expansive outdoor spaces, set her apart where she comfortably compares to much larger yachts.”
Unlimited adventure
The yacht is fully equipped for an adventurous owner. Her helideck, complete with a certified refuelling station and safety foam sensor system, ensures easy access to remote destinations and peace of mind during extended voyages.
Flying Manta’s low draught of 2.8 metres allows for exploration in shallow waters. Her tender capabilities rival those of a much larger yacht, with room for up to four, or two with a helicopter on board, providing guests with ample options for day excursions to secluded coastlines. Four cranes, including two hidden on the rear mezzanine, and a side launch balcony make launching tenders a breeze. Redford continues: “She is the perfect yacht for families seeking thrilling adventures, from heliskiing to diving remote reefs”.
Upgraded performance
Equipped with twin MTU 2,735 hp engines, the yacht reaches a maximum speed of 24 knots and cruises comfortably at 11 knots. With a transoceanic range of 4,000 nautical miles at cruising speed, she is capable of enduring long journeys. Originally built in 2004, Flying Manta underwent a major overhaul and refit from 2015 to 2017 in Brisbane, Australia. The project included a six-metre extension, interior structural reconfiguration, systems upgrade, improved crew quarters, a new galley worthy of a Michelin-star chef, and the installation of two new large Seakeeper stabilisers, resulting in smoother, quieter and more efficient operation. Aesthetically, the project saw a complete soft furnishings upgrade and a complete repaint.
In January 2024, she was lifted from the water at Pendennis Shipyard in England for an extensive overhaul that included the engine and gearbox being rebuilt, upgraded stabiliser spheres and a hull repaint, among other improvements. Her Lloyds survey was freshly completed in July 2024.
“A testament to engineering excellence, Flying Manta boasts impressive speed, range and comfort. Meticulously maintained and recently refitted, she offers unparalleled luxury and reliability, and is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner,” Redford adds.
