THE CAR SUPERYACHT OWNERS LOVE TO DRIVE

Why should your luxury onboard experience end the minute you step off your yacht? With newly updated interiors and the integration of Aston Martin's all-new infotainment system, the DBX707 is setting a new bar for ultra-luxury SUVs. BOAT takes a closer look at the car's most standout features...

Is Aston Martin's latest creation an SUV with the soul of a supercar, or a supercar in the guise of an SUV? It makes you feel sad for the rest, as The Spy Who Loved Me theme song goes – those utilitarian people carriers with their sliding doors or the more functional SUVs dispatched to ferry owners and guests to and from superyachts.

“With its best-in-class performance and dynamics, world-class design and the highest levels of luxury, the DBX707 immediately established a new ultra-luxury SUV benchmark," says Marco Mattiacci, global chief brand and commercial officer at Aston Martin. "Now upgraded with state-of-the-art technology and a completely new interior, the DBX707 moves the game on once more, further elevating the standard by which all competitors are judged."

A car that soothes the senses

What superyacht lovers appreciate above all, mind, is being up on a floating stage: the sensory stimulation, vivid sights, stirring sounds, engaging motion, heavenly tactile finishes, plus - every now and then - that taste of adrenaline in the mouth.

Aston Martin's new ultra-luxury performance SUV means you needn't forsake these legal highs when embarking or disembarking life on the high seas.

Whether gripping the fabled Corniche roads above the Côte d'Azur or easing into the Superyacht Marina at Aston Martin Residences in Miami, you can extend the yachting lifestyle on shore with the DBX707, which is offered in five arresting new colours - Epsilon Black, Helios Yellow, Sprint Green, Malachite Green and Aura Green - in addition to Aston Martin's full range.

The exterior's sculptural, statuesque form - sporting an eye-catching enlarged version of that instantly recognisable front grille - is a spectacle in itself. New, ‘presenting’ door handles power outwards as you unlock the car.

Inside, you sit commandingly high up, enjoying enhanced views. The striking interior is its own visual treat – craftsmanship more than a century in the making, combined with features such as the thoughtfully swivel-headed door mirrors containing fully integrated 360-degree parking cameras. Rest your head back and deeply inhale the scent of rich leather.

A superior drive

The tactile experience is its own realm - not just the finishes, deep carpets or heated and ventilated backseats offering copious legroom, but also the very feel of the ride, thanks to the Aston Martin-developed 4.0-litre V8 engine capable of 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds or 193mph top speed.

It is mated to the nine-speed wet clutch gearbox and matched by the reassuringly precise Carbon Ceramic Brakes and chassis calibration software. The DBX707’s stability control system ‘learns’ how much weight is in the car, and this proves key to how 'permissive' its limit setting can be; it knows, for example, when you've loaded the 638-litre boot for longer drives, just by the way the car corners.

Perfecting a balance between touchscreen and physical controls – the digital and analogue – there are buttons for gear selection, heating and ventilation. There are also control switches for suspension, the Electronic Stability Programme, lane keep assist and park distance control, ensuring that the most used controls are always conveniently – literally – to hand.

Or, for greater pleasure seekers, there is the option of Bowers & Wilkins sound system, which comes acoustically fitted to the DBX707’s interior volume and shape, upgrading the cabin to a 23-speaker, double-amplified 1,600W with dedicated '3D' headline speakers, bass speakers and a potent subwoofer, all delivering truly emotionally stirring sound that resonates with the DBX707's character.

The interior is otherwise exceptionally quiet, but the exhaust notes will cut through, as they should: sonorous in repose; a throaty roar as required - how does adrenaline taste to you?

Q by Aston Martin - the marque’s bespoke service - creates options for personalising the vehicle, as is befitting of James Bond's chosen car provisioner. The model name, by the way, is not a re-numbering of 007 but rather the engine's remarkable power, measured as 707PS, or 900Nm - of itself, practically in superyacht territory. As one yacht owner was recently overheard declaring: "I want a fleet of them."

Available to test drive, dependent on availability. To find out more information on the DBX707 or other innovative Aston Martin models, contact Aston Martin today.
