Luxury yacht Anditi destroyed by fire in Miami

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of a fire on 24.9 metre luxury yacht  Anditi in Coconut Grove, Miami, on June 22nd 2015.

The flames broke out producing heavy smoke before fire fighters were called to the area just after 8pm. They responded quickly and the blaze was put out. The Sunseeker Predator 82 yacht was destroyed by the fire, which forced thick smoke through the cabin. No other yachts suffered damage. The fire rescue team stayed late in the night to help the clean up of the damage and also further investigations took place.

Witnesses told Local 10 news they heard a loud bang that sounded like an explosion coming from the boat, which then burst into flames. Bystanders used a hose to battle the blaze before the fire rescue team appeared, and nearly had it under control until it sparked again.

Anditi isn't the first yacht to catch fire at Coconut Grove; four years ago, in December 2011, three yachts were completely destroyed by a fire whilst another yacht nearby was seriously damaged.

No one was aboard Anditi at the time of the fire. The cause is yet to be determined, but the owner of the yacht told investigators that the boat was used a day earlier and appeared to be in perfect working conditions.
