The fire that broke out at Sirena Yachts' shipyard in Bursa, Turkey has now been extinguished. The incident began at approximately 7.30am local time (7 August) with eyewitnesses reporting heavy smoke and flames visible from the Yalova-Bursa highway.
The shipyard released the following statement: "[The fire] got under control quickly and has been extinguished. Thankfully, no one was hurt and all the workers are safe outside the factory. The situation is under control, and no boats were damaged during the incident."
The Bursa facilities are where Sirena Yachts produces its moulds, hulls and decks, though it is believed that the fire only impacted the rear chemical warehouse. According to local reports, over 70 personnel supported by 20 rescue vehicles were on site to tackle the blaze.
In March 2024, Sirena Yachts unveiled a new shipyard in Yalova, Turkey dedicated to "a new line of superyachts". The Turkish yard also made recent news with the first behind-the-scenes imagery of its in-build 42-metre flagship.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
