The Dutch superyacht builder ICON Yachts has announced that it has completed a purchase deal to strengthen its financial security.
According to our sources, the company has been bought by the same individual who recently purchased the 2010, 62.5m motor yacht Icon, the first yacht to be built at the yard.
‘This deal sees the marriage of new long term committed investment with our proven capabilities at Icon Yachts,’ says ICON Yachts CEO Jen Wartena. ‘It's the strengthening of our financial backbone that we have been seeking since we embarked on our ambitious journey to create this forward-thinking shipyard.’
Founded in 2005, ICON Yachts is located on reclaimed land in Harlingen, with direct open water access. Facilities include a large covered dry-dock with space for yachts of up to 150m and a 4,500 tonne Synchrolift.
Since Icon was built, the yard has has produced two her sisterships, 2010 Baton Rouge and 2013 Meridian (ex-Maidelle) both 62.5m. The yard has also undertaken some major refits in recent months, including the ongoing conversions of Meridian and 47.5m Feadship motor yacht Princess Too.
