Superyacht Eos catches fire in Oslo

1 July 2012

Eos, the third largest sailing yacht in the world, reportedly caught fire in Oslo on Saturday 30 June.

Little is known at the moment about the cause or extent of the fire, but the Norwegian media and Maritime Bulletin reported that it broke out on Saturday afternoon while the 82.6m vessel was moored on the eastern side of Olso's harbour with 18 people on board. Fifteen fire fighters from Oslo's fire and rescue service came to the assistance of the yacht crew to fight the fire, which was brought under control by 2015 local time, five hours after emergency services were called. No one was injured.

Police have said that the most extensive damage is limited to the top deck of the yacht according to Norwegian English news website News and Views from Norway.

Eos, which is owned by broadcasting and entertainment mogul Barry Diller and his wife, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, had been in Oslo for the past week, and her owner had been on board since Friday.
